Covid 19: 18 August Update

Covid-19: Important Payroll Update – 18 August 2021

Firstly, we hope all our customers are safe, healthy and with loved ones.

Over the next few days, we would appreciate everyone’s patience as we process information as it becomes available. Given how quickly the situation has escalated, it is likely that this information could change but we will be sure to update everyone as it does.

Outlined below is our most up to date information:

1. Wage Subsidy
We’ve outlined below the information that we currently have available in relation to Government Financial Support. It is likely that further information may be provided, at which point, we will provide more information.
  • Wage subsidy will be paid as a two-week lump sum
  • Applications will open on August 20th, with the first payment usually available within three working days
  • Amount will be paid as:
    • $600 per week per full-time employee
    • $359 per week per part-time employee
  • Workers will be determined as follows:
    • 20 hours or more per week – fulltime
    • 20 hours or less per week – Part-time
Based on what we know, families would be eligible for the wage subsidy if they meet the following criteria:
  • They have, or expect to have, a decrease of 40 per cent revenue as a result of the level 4 lockdown
  • This will likely be calculated over a 14 day period compared with a similar period
  • You retain the employee that you are applying for
  • You have attempted to mitigate the financial impact
In terms of the information available, families wouldn’t automatically be eligible for the wage subsidy just because of the lockdown. Our understanding is that families would still need to have had a drop in revenue to be eligible for this

If you don’t meet the eligibility, we would suggest reading on to the final section on this update as it provides more guidance around how to manage leave and absences.

2. Other possible Government Subsidies
The Government has also indicated that several other subsidies may be made available due to the current lockdown. 

These include:
  • Leave Support Scheme
    • Available for employers to help pay their employees who need to self-isolate and can’t work from home
  • Short-Term Absence Payment
    • Available for businesses who cannot work from home while they wait for a Covid-19 test result
  • Resurgence Support Payment
    • Available for businesses and organisations facing a reduction in revenue to assist with overhead costs

3. Applying for Government Subsidies
Applications will be open from Friday this week and we are aiming to send out a form tomorrow afternoon or Friday which our customers can complete. 

For those who are eligible we will apply on your behalf so the form we send out will be a mechanism to collect the information required to complete this.

4. For Nannies who are continuing to work
Nannies may be continuing to work during the lockdown period. 

For these families and nannies, there is nothing further that you need to do for your payroll. You will continue to complete your timesheets as normal and be paid in line with your normal payroll cycles.

5. Employee Entitlements to Leave and Pay
The information below is from the Employment NZ website and provides some general guidance around dealing with absence due to the lockdown.

The main takeaway from this is that we would encourage families and nannies to engage in open conversation to find a fair solution


6. Applying for Leave in Invoxy
If you are taking leave due to the Covid-19 lockdown, we would really appreciate it if these could all be logged in to Invoxy.

Regardless of the leave type, nannies can log their leave in to the Invoxy portal through the Leave Tab. The leave application will need to be made by the nanny initially but the request will be sent to families for approval.
